Sustainability
Our approach to the environment, at every stage, is quite simply unsurpassed.
Badges mailed
- Our badge-cards avoid the need for envelopes altogether, so are superior to all formats (badge-letters etc) that require them
- The mailing piece is the badge, which is superior to providing a second piece, the badge, tipped-on
- The card is simple card, requiring less manufacturing than other formats including adhesive or peel-off formats
- The board we use is
- made from wood fibre from sustainable forests
- fully recyclable and bio degradable.
- elemental chlorine free.
- I.S.O 14001 ( produced at a mill that holds I.S.O 14001 )
- not thermal-sensitive, eliminating that process altogether
- We do not mail badge-holders, avoiding the wastage of doing so.
Badges not mailed
We can avoid mailing badges altogether, simply sending an email with a barcode that visitors bring. This approach:
- eliminates the environmental cost of carrying the badge to the person
- means less wastage – no pre-printed badge stationery, hence no overs
- means that although each person who attends now has two documents (the barcode they print, and the badge they exchange it for), as generally only half of those who register actually attend, we expect the impacts to balance out
- uses self-service kiosks where visitors can exchange their barcodes for badges. We are reducing the environmental cost of providing them (needing larger vehicles or more vehicles required to go to site) by designing our own folding kiosks to be transported in smaller vehicles.
Badges worn
Although we offer a variety of formats, our standard badge-in-holder is by far the most environmentally friendly yet devised:
- no lanyards required. Lanyards are not re-usable, being branded for the event; and there will always be overs
- badge-holders are actually re-used at zero environmental cost, not recycled
- re-use means no overs
- badge-holders accept simple card badges – no peeling or adhesive processes required.
Colour personalisation
- We use colour printers before the event and at it. This means we can use plain badge stationery, eliminating the cost of overs altogether. It also eliminates the need for coloured badge-holders and associated overs.
There are other cost and quality benefits to the QRS approach, but that’s another story. We have got where we are by always concentrating on providing efficiency, real quality and value-for-money. It’s not really surprising that efficiency and eliminating waste turn out to be good for the environment too. |
